Since 2012, Gavin has worked as In-House Counsel for Shepherd Royalty and Shepherd Solar where he has focused on the transactional side of oil, gas and renewable energy law. For Shepherd Royalty, this includes reviewing purchase and sale agreements, title ownership, and land management projects, including the acquisition of several hundred million dollars of mineral and leasehold assets. Gavin also managed the acquisition of 1000-2000 acres of solar development leasehold for Shepherd Solar.
Gavin’s oil and gas legal experience focuses on the transactional side of oil, gas and renewable energy law for various exploration and production and mineral purchasing clients This includes drafting and reviewing purchase and sale agreements, title reports, land management projects, contract disputes, farmout/farmin agreements, unit designations, and coordinating outside counsel for litigation disputes.
In renewable energy, Gavin served as President of Americlean Energy Group. Gavin’s responsibilities included preparing wind leases, reviewing all the contracts for Americlean for a 400 MW wind farm located in Woodford County, Illinois 400-500MM project. Additionally, Americlean developed two projects totaling 750 MW of power in Callahan County, Texas.
Gavin graduated from Southern Methodist University with a B.S. in in Mechanical Engineering in 1999 and a juris doctorate from Texas Tech University in 2005.
Holt began his career in the oil & gas industry as a landman leasing minerals and constructing title reports while attending TCU. Co-founding Shepherd Royalty, LLC in 2011, Holt’s primary roles included directing the acquisition team, evaluation, management and sales of the company’s investments.
Beginning in 2020, he led the transition of Shepherd Royalty’s primary business model from minerals and royalties to investing in Non-Operated working interests.
Holt’s renewable experience includes managing the financing of the Shepherd Solar projects and coordinating the leasing and purchasing efforts of the Shepherd Solar team.
Holt received his BBA in Finance and Accounting from Texas Christian University in 2011.
Gary is the founding member of Shepherd Solar LLC, formed in 2022. In 2011, Gary founded Shepherd Royalty, LLC. Since its inception, Shepherd Royalty purchased over $135 million dollars in Oil & Gas minerals & royalties.
Using his experience as a former banker, Gary oversaw the acquisition and management of several oil and gas companies, commercial real estate companies and land acquisition entities. Gary financed these entities and platforms through various debt and equity structures.
In his ongoing commercial real estate venture, Gary managed a development of 1200 homebuilding lots in the Villages of Fox Hollow located in Forney, Texas.
For over 40 years, Gary’s main business was on the exploration and production side of Oil and Gas. Gary drilled and operated over 250 O&G wells in Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming and Colorado. Additionally, he has participated on a Non-Operated working interest basis in over 200 wells with other oil and gas companies.
An Oklahoma native, Gary graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1974 and resides in Dallas. He is a member of numerous professional organizations including the Texas Independent Petroleum Association, The Dallas Association of Petroleum Landmen, the Petroleum Club of Dallas and the Texas & Southwest Cattle Raisers Association. He is a founding member of All Saints Anglican Church, Dallas.
Adam graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Political Science, in addition to completing the Business Foundations Program through the McCombs School of Business. He received his certificate in Petroleum Land Management from the University of Houston in 2012 and from Texas Christian University in 2014. As manager of acquisitions, his role includes tracking leasing and buying activities, map making and analysis, while also negotiating terms with individual owners and companies in solar development areas across the country. He has contracted over 2,000 acres of prospective solar land. He is an active member of the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL).
Justin managed the construction of more than 50 commercial scale solar projects in the state of Texas. The clients for past projects include Ikea, Toyota, Sunpower, HEB, Tesla, Verizon, and Total. Justin graduated from Southern Methodist University in 2002 with a degree in engineering. He is a licensed master electrician in the state of Texas. Justin is also a NABCEP certified PV installation professional.
